If teachers were armed then it could have been stopped in its tracks.

It could have been prevented. The man had already been deemed an extreme danger to himself and others by a doctor before, yet they allowed him to be on their campus. A teacher at Vt had threatened to leave if he wasn't removed from her class/campus (I am not sure which).
When the first shooting occurred on campus and they didn't shut down the campus because they thought it was an isolated event, bad idea. My dad said this and I agree. If the shooter isn't there dead or in cuffs, then you've got a man with a gun running around somewhere on or around campus that is ready to kill people. They sent e-mails to the students on campus that there was a shooting, but the students didn't get that till around 9 a.m., a short time before the second shooting occurred.
Something that can be argued is that even if they shut down campus there are still student coming from different locations to the campus. Thats true, but those students would have figured out that if the class rooms were closed that classes where called off for a reason. The man could have killed someone walking back to the quad or dorm room, but the fatalities would have been far less.
Overall, in my opinion, the protocols that the campus followed were poor. They made poor decisions, when they thought that it was an isolated event on campus. I noticed that before when a prison inmate escaped from jail early in the year that when the sheriffs deputy was shot they called off all classes and the shooting was only near the campus. Yet when two students were shot on campus, they thought that having classes would still be a good idea. The campus administration said they did what they could, but I think that they could have done more to keep their students safe.

Even if THIS crazy guy was prevented from doing this horrible thing, school shootings will never end as long as people are free to say what they say, no matter how damaging it is.
Someone is always going to get picked on.

Raganork is completly and 100%ly right...protocols should have been tighter or at least followed more closely. There was a couple of threats last year at my school for school "shootings" but when the "day' came cops were everywhere. After the forst shooting, they should have had cops in the place looking for the gunman

I think it was insane that NBC decided to air all the video stuff he sent in.
It basically gave that crazy dude what he wanted.
I hope we don't see any copy cats that hope to achieve similar global media exposure by doing something terrible....

If you think this is somethin to laugh about it isn't. The guy did have mental issuses but what i'm looking for is why wasn't it prevented. Just last night on the news there were like 5 copy-cat threats already. what if 1 come true?
