I havent done any school for 2 weeks now, so im a bit lost. Just nd to know what needs to be done here to find out the different x's

x^4 + 24 = 15x^2 + 10x
Edlittle
What does the ^ mean?

If its multiply then:

1. x^4+24=30x+10x
2. 4x+24=40x
3.24=36x
4. 24/36=x
5 2/3=x
Bliz
1. x^4 + 24 = 15x^2 + 10x
2. x^4 - 10x + 24 = 15x^2
3. -14x^2 - 10x + 24 = 0
4. (x - 4) (x - 6) = 0
5. x = 4 or x = 6
wich means, if you make a plot out of those 2 lines, they hit each other at x = 4 and x = 6

iam not sure if iam correct, but i cba to see if iam right with calculator right now eep.gif

edit - NVM, i now see that iam totally wrong, ---- math biggrin.gif

the ^ doesnt mean multiply, its exponentiation

QUOTE(gnolFgnilF @ Oct 22 2006, 11:15 AM) *

x^4 + 24 = 15x^2 + 10x

(x^4) - (15x^2) - 10x +24 = 0

use rational root theorem to find all the roots

edit- well if you dunno how to use it, i will do it for ya
gnolFgnilF
gah curse my german school... i have no clue what a 'rational root theorem' is in german!
junkdude101
try this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rational_root_theorem

i dont really want to do your work for you, or else you wont learn the materials

after you find all the "possible" roots, test them all out by using synthetic division

ok thanks alot junk. i had completely forgoten how it all worked but i remember now.
