I could probably do this if i tried, but I'm a lazy git. Oh, fine I'll be honest.

I suck biggrin.gif!!!

Two questions:

A and B are numbers,

A=B+2

A+B=AB

Show that A and B are not integers.

The other one is a bit more complicated =/

To change temperatures measured in °C to °F you can use an exact formula or an approximate formula.

EXACT FORMULA: F = (9C)/5 + 32

APPROXIMATE FORMULA: F = 2C + 30

F is the temperature in °F

C is the tempetature in °C

At what temperature in °C do these formulae give an equal value for F?

You must show an algebraic method.

eep.gif It's probably really easy once done but... meh

For the second one, the equation is actually:

CODE
F = 9/5(C+32)

Standardized testing made us do a problem with that, and the Celsius to Farenheit.

I enter the algebra room and my brain automatically shuts off. im numerophobic. i hate math. it gives me headaches. all this xy crap is useless in my life. lol. i was trying to read ur equations and i was like : o.O

lol tongue.gif we share the same dislike of maths.

OH, and dewgong8, this is the actual formula tongue.gif

A=B+2
A+B=AB

Show that A and B are not integers.

(B+2)+B=(B+2)B substitution
2B+2=B^2+2B multiplying out
B^2=2 canceling 2B

so therefore b = square root of 2
and a = 2 + square root of 2
-----------------------------------------------
EXACT FORMULA: F = (9/5)C + 32
APPROXIMATE FORMULA: F = 2C + 30

At what temperature in °C do these formula give an equal value for F?

(9/5)C+32=2C+30 set them equal
(9/5)C+2=2C subtract 30 from both sides
2=(1/5)C subtract (9/5)C from both sides
C=10 degrees

no it doesnt. just admit you're wrong smile.gif
your equation comes out to (9/5)C+ (288/5) which is more than 25 degrees off

Junk was perfect. biggrin.gif

so therefore b = square root of 2
and a = 2 + square root of 2

Also, if on the off chance you had to go further, you could say that since radical 2 (in other worlds, the square root of two) has a nonrepeating, nonterminating decimal and cannot be expressed as a simple fraction, it is an irrational number and therefore not an integer.

Substitute B+2 for A into equation 2.
(B+2)+B=B(B+2)
2B+2=B2+2B
2=B2
B would equal to the square root of 2, which is not an integer.

Do the same thing for A:
A=B+2 ---> B=A-2
Substitute A-2 for B into equation 2.
A+(A-2)=A(A-2)
2A-2=A2+2A
-2=A2
The square root of a negative number is an imaginary number, therefore it is also not an interger.

To find an equal value, the 2 F must be equal, therefore--->
(9C)/5 + 32=2C + 30
(9C)/5 + 32 - 2=2C + 30 - 2
(9C)/5 + 2 = 2C
((9C)/5 + 2)*5 = 2C * 5
9C +10 = 10C
10=C

There ya go, have fun wink.gif

Somehow I don't think PSSAs are incorrect.

EDIT: Actually, it might be for just for conversion
