First gfx related thread in a while for me.

So, I decided to play around with the pen tool and get to know it together, simply because it is my belief that it is one of the most powerful tools in PS and I know next to nothing about it.

I drew up this little birdie:

Linkeroo

And now I am wondering how to color it. Any tips? I don't like tutorials, because its almost impossible to read tutorials on basics and general things. They always just give an example and make you feel stupid because you can't do it. Copying someone else is not how I learn, so just general tips would be lovely.

Thanks!

Color it like a vector. One color, then shades of it. Neck's kinda weird too.
Cmafai
I will give that a shot, not that I have any skill with vectors...

Oh, and the neck is wierd because I had a outer glow around the whole head and I had to hide that. Got a bit messy and I wasn't going for perfection for an image just to show for advice.

Thanks though.
toe76
maybe a gradiant?

I think it might work if the gradiant is spiraled...ut then again I never use gradiants
Xemaul
Well there's that, but the way it's bent...Looks broken.
Cmafai
Eh, true... tongue.gif Oh well, I won't be using this for anything but experience really...

And btw, Toe, your sig slows down the loading speed on this page sooo much. It's actually quite annoying, and I think RC has a sig size (in kb, not px) limit, that your sig probably exceeds.
egalan7
i actually like the neck it gives a good flow.
Cmafai
Heh, I tried just adding some patterns to it, and a bevel:
