Though not fully a proven fact, but I realized that TV's can alleviate some emotional pain. Most people usually watch TV for entertainment, but it can be useful to help forget emotional pain and simply enjoy the cartoons. In fact...this actually did happen to me (why else would i post a semi-unproven fact?).
But I also know that it may make the pain worse (especially if of a certain genre/setting). It's just like fire, it can warm you, or harm you.
P.S. Don't watch too much TV, or watch it too close (may cause seizures)

Not just entertainment, it also keeps us connected with the rest of the world, let us know about the weather etc. I've never heard of it healing emotional scars. but I guess thats nice...
I just use it for some shows I like.. Mostly for having good laughs.

I watch it for entertainment, besides when i watch the history channel.
As Kev said, it connects us with the world news, weather, issues etc.
But as for healing emotional scars, i'm not sure, but an interesting idea.

I love my TV. It brings me Metalocalypse.
