Is there a way which can allow people to close their own threads instead of asking the mods to do it... i think it will make closing topics a lot easier and prevents people from posting in old/out-dated topics... would be particularly useful in the events section...

There is no way of posting in old topics, since they get auto-pruned.

Sadly this cant be done, the only forum it makes sense to do it with is the events forum, and even then its best to simply report the post for a moderator to remove.
