I don't know if it is affordable since renting a server costs money but maybe a Ventrilo or Teamspeak server. I've found them to be trustworth VOIP programs through other games and I've been spoiled since I started using them. It's like talking with a person over the phone, but with a lot of people and not having to type! I've seen a lot of reseller servers, one I use now through a friend has 25 slots and it's half the price for a normal 25 slot server and it even has a really decent codec.

For new users to log on to the server simply follow these quick instructions:
1:) Do you have a User name?
-A:) No. Click the -> next to the User name field at the top of the program. Click New, enter the name desired (Preferable a name that everyone will recognize you by but not required). Option: You can put in a phone that will play instead of your name when you log in or move channels but this is not required. Click Ok.
-B:) Yes. Go to Step 2.
2:) Click the -> next to the Server field. Click new and enter the name of the server (The name doesn't have to be specific as long as you know it's the RuneCrypt server. Mine is just Runecrypt.). In the Hostname or IP field enter the Server IP provided above. In the Port Number field enter the port number provided above. Leave the rest of the fields blank for now. Click Ok. Go to Step 3.
3:) Click Setup the the mid right of the program. On the top left of the tab make sure that the Use Push to Talk Hotkey(Ptt Mode) is checked. It's a pet peeve of mine to hear somebodies mom screaming in the bathroom for Jeff to clean the bathroom or dinner is ready. After that do down the the box and click in the field titled Hotkey and press the button that you can easily remember to hold down to talk on Ventrilo. The button will need to be held down the entire time your saying something. You may need to adjust the key depending on what game or application your using because some keys interfere with programs. And please make sure that the slider for outbound in the bottom right of the tab isn't set all the way up because some of us use headsets and that hurts the ears if a persons mic is too loud! Click ok. Go to step 4.
4:) Click Connect!

Basic Rules:
1:) Don't talk about stuff that you wouldn't talk about on the RuneCrypt forum.
2:) Be respectful to all users.
3:) Try not to talk over other users. (If they are talking try not to cut in to the middle of what they are saying)
4:) Have fun!

Well the old server is getting canceled on on Apr 09, 2009.
I'm actually taking over another server used for a clan on a different game but it usually has 10 or more active people at a time.
With that being said I have no use for a server that is inactive so by by server.
You can still use it if you'd like, just identify that your a friend of Revery. That's my name on that server.

No. We've had one before which Jeremy got hosted for free, and it was used for one day or so.. Don't think it'll make any difference if we pay for it instead. I agree it's fun.. But I don't think it'll be used much, and they cost quite some money, which Andy would have to pay for.

If we were to get it, we'd go for teamspeak though, because it's a lot cheaper. But don't think it will be worthwhile.

If there is enough interest in this I would consider renting a Ventrillo server for RC. I already have one which I host privately and it works rather well.

The costs involved in renting the server isn't really much of an issue. The rented vent server would be independent from RuneCrypts server so it wouldn't be up too Andy to cover the costs - I would take care of that.

Please do post if you would be interested, if enough people are interested and would use it I would have no problem adding it to RC.

Teamspeak and ventrilo let you talk with a microphone, which is a lot more fun. I just don't think there is enough interest in it, I would for sure like it, we could of course try..

Yes, I'm relating them. The chat room was used a lot the fisrt...3 days maybe? Then after that it was just another empty room.

If I used Vent, i'd get the 'l0L GIRL VOIEC' comments daily So it's a definate no of my using it, but should that stop others? No.
Sounds like a good idea, but i'm unsure whether many people would benifit from it as much as Irc.

vent servers are quite decent i own one my self with 20 slots, the problem is you have idiots come in quite often spamming connection and disconnections but also you have the quite times were no one wants to go in and feel like a loner for hours while waiting for someone to arrive

I'd be interested in a Ventrilo server, started using it instead of TeamSpeak for clans and such, much better quality in my opinion.

First things first on this. No, I've seen this tried for other runescape fan sites and they don't work, there aren't enough people here with mic's. Alot of people especially on fansites just come and pass by, some to do harm. which could result into hacks, ruining of servers scripts and such.

Also, If we make this out, and tell everyone on it. People from RuneScape Community or other fan sites might be like "hehehehee ye lets go mess with the people in runecrypt teamspeak." also, people in clans could see hey maybe only like 4 people use this thing everyday lets invite the whole clan that we don't even know. right into teamspeak or vent taking over the hole thing.

I think teamspeak should be used for clans. because they are private and not spit out to the non-clan members so everyone can come in and spam and bother other people in the clan and teamspeak.

TeamSpeak or Ventrilo for a RuneScape FanSite is always doomed to failed either or any way you put it.

Because you used Ventrilo and not TS. Teamspeak is easier to work with, a lot. Ventrilo requires quite some knowledge to use. We might set a TS server up, since we can actually host it on our own server without any extra costs.

Maarten, I believe Ventrilo could be set up on our server for no cost as well.

Just an idea but a good way to resolve this would be to poll it on the front page, Vent or TS. Whichever wins start that up on here.

Oh and I do have Ventrilo knowledge and you guys are making it sound a lot harder than what it really is. There is a way to talk without Push-to-Talk but I usually harrass those people. And for the people who like to abuse the vent can get a nifty IP BAN. I could start with a smaller server but if it turns out to be a popular thing the server is easily upgradeable by a simple button. I'm a moderater on another ventrilo currently and I've owned my own in the past... they are no big deal.

I've just read through the topic, and I say why not give it a shot. Some say yes, some say no. Give it a week or two and see how it goes.

I for one would at least give it a try for a few days to see if I liked it.

Yea I try to get on there and check back there time to time but I have another server that I go on more often. I might end up canceling this server.

Tried to tell you it wouldn't be used, but now you know. This sorta ideas just arent cut out for RC. We have a forum, isn't that enough? That's where you talk to eachother.
