Full Version: European Superstate.

It's probably only a matter of time until Europe becomes one, big country with the current countries becoming states, kind of like how the U.S is today. However, in this country, (Britain) the press and general media seem to be against it. Wait, what do I mean 'seem?' The amount of anti-European rubbish in the media (most particularly the Newspapers) is borderline racism.

I simply do not understand the aggression and unwillingness to join into a single body.

Please vote in the poll only if you are European, I'd like to get a spread to see how opposed or for it Europeans are. I'll make another set of options for those not in the E.U.

Thanks.
bling_masta8
im European, but not part of the Euro... biggrin.gif don't see much of a problem for it to become one big state though

Whether through the formation of ''Europa'' as a single entity or the formation of a solid alliance between countries, I would back up the formation of a unified Europe. It is about time these old 'Crusader' countries stopped squabbling and being petty. There are more worrying forces in the world that a united Europe would be better able to face. I say crusader, simply because they still squabble pettily like the old Kingdoms.

Primarily I am proud to be British. I am proud of my Celtic heritage. Next to that, I am proud to be European. My ancestors have all been European and to me, Europe / Europa has been my 'land' - both physically and spiritually. This is the land of my fathers, my father's fathers, and I hope the land my children inherit. I am proud of the history we Europeans have.

BUT

When I see how we squabble amoung ourselves, and have weak political leaders who would rather follow the route of appeasment, I baulk. It makes me ashamed to know that my people would allow such weak people into power. These men and women (in general) are not there to look after their people. They have no true sense of what their country needs. They seem to have no sense of reality. Admittedly there are a few good men and women out there... but I have to ask myself this: Do I want to follow someone, and subjugate myself to their laws and control when they are only interested in money and power?

If there is one thing you take away from reading my post, let it be this:

I will not follow someone who is not willing to put their fragile body between their loved ones and desolation of war.

For this reason, I am not proud of what Europe is becoming - or how it is being run. If we had strong leaders who were altruistic towards their own people for a change, then I may be proud once more.

Change the method of government, change the qualities needed to be in government, and then maybe I would support a united Europe more.

european.

I don't really have an opinion, I guess it might be a good thing, at least for my country, it can't be more fked that it is already eh.gif

And this.. also watch the video linked in the quote:
QUOTE

Are you happy with paying for a good standard of living for less fortunate countries, while your standard of living is falling rapidly and will continue to do so on a daily basis?
This is the reality of the European Union.
Most see the European Union of today as an inefficient conglomeration of states run by self-serving career politicians anxious to guarantee ... their survival by safely nesting in the EU's cocoon of endless bureaucracies.
Many don't really see a threat at the moment. They believe that an integrated Europe makes sense; that it would prevent any chance of a third European war; that it is the modern, forward-thinking way to go.

NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH !

Please watch this video it will change what you thought you knew forever! and it is worth watching this right through to the end, frightened the pants off me, and I guarantee it will scare you too.
The Real Face of The European Union (EU)

Please watch the whole video. Merci

I doubt this would ever happen, seeing is that there are a few countries that won't even adapt to the Euro, (britain specificaly) and a number of countries not in the EU. However with time changes may take place, but I think Country pride will overule the "Joining."
Otter
It'd be a great idea, but it will never happen.

You are the leader of a nation. Would you want to give up your allotted power?
Silverleafs
I'm from Belgium, and I like the idea.. but, what countries are prepared to give all their power away to create that country, who will lead it? And most important:

France & Germany? See the combination?

I like the idea, but getting it worked out.. Nope.
toe76
some points I will point out *chuckles at horrible pun*

language barrier, yes you do get schooled in a lot of languages over there, but its rare to find people who can speak more than 3 languages fluently

russia, they are a part of both Europe and Asia. So what will the chunk of Russia that resides in Europe do?

civil war, as stated above (France + Germany)^unification = civil war waiting to happen
sonic718
It'll be sorta confusing with all those countrys that speak different languages joining together,
Lamborgini8
Wow, more non-Europeans than Europeans disagree.

Personally, it'd be cool if Europe was one big country. It would make trade between "states" a lot easier.

Plus, those dumb blondes that say "I thought Europe was a country" would be right.
Bliz
Surely this is a great idea, but I know for a fact that the Netherlands will only lose money out of this.

I guess I would agree if only germany, england, sweden, etc joined.
Kevinboos
If they join, good for them. I null'd.
youhavedied
I personally don't like the idea, being from the United States...I think that those with the most power would be opposed to the United State's goals, I.E. contributing more troops to NATO, helping in the war against terror, etc, because they lack the will to get it done. Individual countries could send their troops, based on what they think is right, but under one country I'm not sure that that would be the case.

EDIT: Very interesting, complete opposite views from inside and outside of Europe...
Rott3n Apple
I'm European but I don't really have an opinion on this. It would probably mean a lot of extreme changes and

I don't know if the countries would want that. But what do I know
youhavedied
I think that there are wayy too many culture and language barriers to overcome. The United States was BUILT by different cultures, but these cultures in Europe have been around for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Good luck trying to put them all in one pen.

Explain please.

I think it's a good idea, but I wouldn't be surprised if I found rebellion. Numerous countries, all which are big influences (UK, Germany, France), there could be a rebellion, which leads to invasion, U.S. "helps"... or they might actually help, but looking at the past fifty years, it doesn't look like it.

Hard to believe, but it's an intriguing idea.
Ironman1441
Sounds like a good idea but realistically it would never work.
Emperor Josh
It does indeed sound like a good idea, however at this moment in time it's unlikely that such events will happen. But as you say, perhaps sometime in the future we'll put our differences behind us and unite. I too don't understand a lot of the "racist" feeling towards other European countries. Actually... scrap that; it's probably football.
Silver
The whole idea of Europa being similar to the US is just silly to begin with.

Europe wouldn't be unified. Evey country is too proud to concede itself. Why did the UK, Spain, Portugal, and France get all in a tiff about leaving foreign lands that were failing them? Too proud.

If anyone were to lead it, it would be your perfect little Swiss angels.

Most European countries learn English in Schools as well as their first language, so it isn't that much of an issue.

I'm all for it, I think it'll be good for the economy of all countries involved and we'll (UK) still get to police things like immigration how we see fit.

They could have picked a better Capital than Brussels though. sad.gif
Turaak
Well if BNP keep gaining seats then we won't see a big happy continentry at all... ;o

The circumstances in which the United States of America... well... united (tongue.gif) aren't at all equivalent to anything Europe has going on, mainly because North America was completely empty except for the Indians (and the newcomers did away with them wink.gif ). Sure there was a war between the north and the south but there was a general consistency that was clear since the deceleration of independence.
Fact is, the whole of Europe is divided into around 4 groups which aren't so cuddly: The British which if anything won't be counted in that superstate (so I'm not counting them), the French, the Germans, the Russians and most of Eastern-Europe... They will not go well together under an obligating federal constraints. sure they have the EU, but the EU can only do so much and when it comes to foreign and inner affairs, they don't have much say in the matter.

The current compilation of the EU nations is strictly business and I don't think they can manage anything more than that. I agree with Aaron on this one, comparing them to the US is just silly.
ents stole my baxe!
the trade agreements made within the EU and the EEA would definately conflict with whatever country is spearheading the unification. If this happened and Switzerland was left out, they'd be entirely surrounded by a single country. I'm not european and I personally would not care about it, but the UK would have to change it's currency entirely. I null. sleep.gif
