That is odd lol, you know, I have run into the same problem myself when I played barbarian assault. I love defender.
Correct me if I am wrong, but can you not just try to lead a path or pile of assorted food stuffs in the runners surroundings? If that were to happen, would not the runner turn around and eat to its death? If your defender can not do that then I would see where you are screwed lol
I see where your point is though, when a runner gets pinned in that spot it does get really annoying, I remember when that happened.

Um, I use it to trick runners.

Even if that pool was gone, a dumb defender would still mess it up.
