This is an update and modification of J-A-Y's previous thread, Useful Utilites. After seeing that the thread was outdated and could use a re-vamp, I have decided to take it upon myself to update it. This update includes the newest edition of each program, better descriptions, and even more utilities. Any user is able to post their own suggestions in order to contribute to the list.

Ad-Aware - This software uses Code Sequence Identification (CSI) to detect malicious software that it doesn't even know of by comparing code sequences with its database to detect new malware.
Spybot: Search & Destroy - This software can identify spyware - very similar to Ad-Aware - but when paired together, make an almost unstoppable team.
TrendMicro HouseCall Online Scan - This is a free, online virus scanner.
ZoneAlarm Firewall - ZoneAlarm Firewall is a free and easy-to-use firewall, and is considered the best firewall around.
AVG Free Edition Antivirus - Notably one of the best antivirus programs on the market, and is a great virus scanner.
AVG Antispyware - AVG Antispyware is from the makers of AVG antivirus, and is a great spyware solution.
Avast! Home Edition - Avast Antivirus, next to AVG, is one of the best virus scanners available.
TrendMicro CWShredder - TrendMicro CWShredder finds and destroys traces of CoolWebSearch, a piece of malware.
TrojanHunter - TrojanHunter is the best trojan scanner around, and can thoroughly scan through your files, registry, open ports and running processes to give you a great defense against trojans.
TrendMicro HiJackThis - HiJackThis provides a scan of your hard drive and registry to find any possible threats, and allows you to manually remove them. When using this software, you must be careful and not delete any system files - it's best to post a log in this forum, and have some of us help you.
Panda ActiveScan? - A free, online virus scanner.
CA Global Security Advisor - CA's online malware scanner, one of the best online scanners.
BitDefender Free Edition - A great, free virus scanner.
Sygate Personal Firewall - A free, personal firewall.
JavaCool SpywareGuard - Free antispyware software.
F-Secure Online Virus Scanner - Great online scanner.
ProcessGuard - An anti-rootkit program for advanced users.
VirusTotal Online File Scanner - THE BEST online virus scanner, using 29 databases from every single company (NOTE: This will NOT scan your computer, only downloaded files)
Jotti Online File Scanner - The second best online virus scanner, as it uses 15 virus scanners available to scan files you need to scan (NOTE: This will NOT scan your computer, only downloaded files)

Utilities

Registry Mechanic - Registry Mechanic can fix errors in your registry, and overall, makes your PC perform better.
NoClone Home Edition - This software will find duplicate files (one you'd never you need) and deletes them to save space.
WinRAR File Archiver - WinRAR can compress and extract files from popular formats, such as .zip, .rar, .bz2 (mostly for steam users), .tar, and many more.
7zip File Archiver - Although not as user-friendly as WinRAR, 7Zip is a free license program, unlike WinRAR. Also, it supports many more file formats.
Download Accelerator Plus - DAP will make your downloads go much more fast and smooth. Also, it poses as a download manager, so you get a 2-in-1 deal here.
TuneUp Utilities 2008 - My favorite registry cleaner, defragger, optimizer, and much more. It's a 30-day trial, but once you start using it, you can't stop yourself.
Prime95 - Prime95 is a tool that runs stress test on both your CPU and ram, as well as finding new prime numbers.
CCleaner - CCleaner is one of my favorite pieces of software, and is a utility that cleans and deletes unneeded files and can fix registry problems.
Aclohol 120% - Absolutely my favorite piece of software, as it can create virtual hard drives and store data from games, programs, movies or music. What this does is make it so that you will never use a CD to start something again, Alcohol has an archive of the disc already on your PC, and runs the program over 200x faster than the CD.
UltraISO - I use this software to make multiple copies of one CD or DVD, I used it once to duplicate promo dvd's for my school and earned $200 for it all, and the software paid for itself.
TweakNow RegCleaner - This freebie is one of the best registry cleaners around.
DVDVideoSoft Free YouTube to iPod Converter - I particularly like this software because you can enter your favorite video's link from a number of sites, and it will download, convert and store the video into iTunes, ready to be put on your iPod.
FileHippo Update Checker - FileHippo, a major download site, ironically, created their own software. This will alert you when the newest versions (or beta versions) of the current software you use, when they come out, no more hunting down old software for new versions!

Program name: Tuneup Utilities 2008
Purpose of program:Free program with simplified control panel commands which all you to optimise's memory, fix registry issues and control your look and feel of the computer.
License (Free, Trial, Pay): trail although after trail period is over the program is full to use but at the cost of a time delay.

Purpose of program: Allows a user to control programs that have "locked" a user out with non responsive warnings or unaccessable errors.

Thanks, Morril. I'll have it up tomorrow, as I'm too lazy atm, so tired. Cmafai has agreed to sticky this thread once the actual update from the old thread has been completed, but for now, it's going to take 1-2 more days, as I'm busy with my birthday tomorrow on the 24th.
