To remedy the situation, the NIMF has red-flagged ten violent games concerned parents should keep away from the under-17 crowd this holiday, citing excessive bloodshed and brutality:
Blitz: The League II
Dead Space
Fallout 3
Far Cry 2
Gears of War 2
Legendary
Left 4 Dead
Resistance 2
Saints Row 2
Silent Hill: Homecoming
Notably, all ten are already rated M for Mature, so for once the industry and the watchdog are in agreement. On the flipside, the NIMF recommends these Teen-rated alternatives:
Guitar Hero World Tour
Rock Band 2
Rock Revolution
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
Shaun White Snowboarding
full story good thing my parents arnt concerned.

Yea, I saw the article on Yahoo! I'm guessing thats where you got it from?
But yea, these articles are so biased. It should say: CLICK ONLY IF YOU ARE A STUCK UP PARENT WHO BABY'S THEIR KID TO DEATH.
K I'm done.

The cashiers aren't going to care what games you buy when you are with a parent. I was playing rated M games since I was like 11 and there's really nothing wrong with me. I think it's stupid when people are going to tell parents which games they shouldn't buy for their kid.
Unless they're mentally retarded, theres really nothing wrong with under 17's playing games like that.
I hate when I read things like this

I played saga saturns version of doom when I was about 6-7, and GTA-2 when i was 11-12. I'd like to think it didn't corrupt my mind too much.

I'd like to think that if I were a parent, I'd be able to calmly explain why the NIMF is chatting some serious rubbish.
Blitz: The League II
Kids - don't play video games where people get hurt - watch the NFL and SHUT YOUR EYES if someone's leg gets snapped in half.
Fallout 3
Well, either it never happens, in which case there's nothing to worry about, or there's a nuclear war and this prepares you for the aftermath. If you're not, y'know, dead. And statistically speaking kids, in event of an all out nuclear war, neither you nor your copy of Shaun White Snowboarding are going to make it.
Far Cry 2
If a mysterious villain starts stirring up tensions between warlords in an underdeveloped country you should bury your head in the sand and shout "LALALALALA" until he goes away. The moral of this game is that if you join the UN Peacekeeping corps, you get paid to do this kind of thing.
Gears of War 2
Dead Space
Resistance 2
Kids, this is a most serious problem. If aliens ever visit us and all we do is play video games about shooting aliens, they're going to be really worried and probably invade us. If they weren't going to anyway. But if they do, playing these will help you wage a solo war as the last of your species quite well.
Legendary
DON'T SHOOT THE GRYPHONS - THEY'RE AN ENDANGERED SPECIES
Saints Row 2
Does anyone else notice that this game being immoral fails in rural areas? It's not really the same trying to be G if everyone in a small village has loads of money. Plus, how many rival gangs are you really going to come up against when there are 20 houses around?
Silent Hill: Homecoming
Not as bad as the original Silent Hill. Now playing that alone on a dark night was scary. And being scary was the only reason I bought the game.
Left 4 Dead
But to the point in hand - zombies aren't real. If they are, we're all gonna be a few IQ levels short of retardation anyway, so why worry?
So kids, play whatever the hell you like, because either it's never going to come true - and therefore you're unlikely to suffer the kind of full breakdown which produces paranoia to the point of believing everyone's a zombie - or it is, and you're well prepared.

And yet I still like playing with slingshots and bows, 9 years later, but lots of kids do. Projectiles are fun when you're the one using them

blitz the leauge is like football but worse. My friend told me you can take your helment off and throw it at the other team mate. If your team is doing bad you can inject them with steriods. Some of the "missions" thingys you have to do is like escape the ally. And every time you succsefuly complete something you get, well stuff that make lonley men happy. Kids dont play this game!

Darth Irule, that sounds like a whole lot of bull. The game is about the sport and maybe a bit of fighting. If there's a kid that actually gets violant because of any of these games it's not because of the game, but there's something wrong with the child.

On 22 January 2007, the game was refused classification[1] by the Office of Film and Literature Classification in Australia, effectively banning the game there. The game was banned as the use of drugs was related to incentives and rewards.

Probably the most savage game ever made was manhunt.
Watching some videos on it i was actually quite disturbed.
(For those who dont know. A 17 year old boy from england killed a 14 year old which was thought to be related to him being obsessed with manhunt.)
From wiki
QUOTE
The murder of Stefan Pakeerah
In the UK, the game was linked to the murder of Stefan Pakeerah, 14, by his friend Warren Leblanc, 17, on the 27 February 2004. Giselle Pakeerah, the victim's mother, claimed that Leblanc had been 'obsessed' with the game after he pleaded guilty in court. During the subsequent media exposure, the game was removed from sale by some vendors, such as the UK and international branches of GAME and Dixons, leading to "significantly increased" demand both from retailers and on Internet auction sites. The police denied any such link between the game and the murder, citing drug-related robbery as the motive. The presiding judge also placed sole responsibility with Leblanc in his summing up after sentencing him to life. It was later discovered that Leblanc didn't actually own the game, but Pakeerah did. It was also found out that Leblanc had previously seen a Chucky film at a theater and it went unnoticed that the murder was identical to one seen in the film.[citation needed]
Legal status
* New Zealand: The game was declared objectionable on December 11, 2003. Possession is an offense.
* Canada: Following a meeting in Toronto on December 22, 2003 between Bill Hastings, the Chief Censor of New Zealand, and officials from the Ontario Ministry of Consumer and Business Services, Manhunt became the first computer game in Ontario to be classified as a film and was restricted to adults on February 3, 2004.
* Australia: It was refused classification (and effectively banned) on September 28, 2004 by the Classification Review Board after having earlier received a classification allowing it to be purchased by those aged 15 years or older.
* United Kingdom: The game received a BBFC 18 certificate, legally prohibiting its sale to anyone under that age.
* Germany: On July 19, 2004, the Amtsgericht Munich confiscated all versions of Manhunt for violation of § 131 StGB (representation of violence). The game, the court said, portrays the killing of humans as fun, and the more fun, the more violent the killing is. They also sensed a glorification of vigilantism, which they considered harmful per se.

Sounds like the guy used drugs reguarly and at a moment he was out of drugs so he killed someone for it. And maybe the game just gave him an idea how to kill him rather than being the reason for the murder.

The game is still related to the incident anyway. An idea taken from a video game
is people being influenced by video games, and sometimes violence. Although video games should never be "a way out" for officials of the law.

I bet 99% of all murderers watch television. Things on the telly often include violance. Why not blame television? Because everybody watches it thus making it more familiar. Gaming however is something which is fairly new and alot of people of the age 40 and higher don't play games alot. People fear change.
