QUOTE(BBC)
Users of Microsoft's Internet Explorer are being urged by experts to switch to a rival until a serious security flaw has been fixed.

The flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer could allow criminals to take control of people's computers and steal their passwords, internet experts say.

Microsoft urged people to be vigilant while it investigated and prepared an emergency patch to resolve it.

...

Microsoft says it has detected attacks against IE 7.0 but said the "underlying vulnerability" was present in all versions of the browser.

Other browsers, such as Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari, are not vulnerable to the flaw Microsoft has identified.

Yes, that means Microsoft is telling people to use something else other than IE

Microsoft security advice:
-Change IE security settings to high (Look under Tools/Internet Options)
-Switch to a Windows user account with limited rights to change a PC's settings
-With IE7 or 8 on Vista turn on Protected Mode
-Ensure your PC is updated
-Keep anti-virus and anti-spyware software up to date

Btw, if you're wondering, yes I did post this thread using ie7 XD.gif
Oh and btw; idk whether this belongs here or in the Computer/Webdesign place, but this gets more views so I thought it was best to post here, feel free to move it about biggrin.gif

Spire: Let them read the above link, if the official bbc news articial does not convince them that there is a risk then they are niave at best. If this security flaw allows someone to steal a password, it fits that it could be modified to log anything that is sent using the same type of security that passwords use - IE: Credit card info ect.

Owned the guy that made a topic the other day about how much he bones IE.

Anyway, doesn't affect me, haven't used IE in years :X

But according to Microsoft, it's not over yet and they will carry on releasing patches.

I don't think I should download the patch - yesterday Windows Update for Vista alerted me to a
"Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista (KB960714)"
Which was 2mb and I had to restart afterwards, so I take it I'm fine.

Yea, that's the same patch as the one I provided, its just that some people have auto-update off so it would be helpful to have the actual link.

As soon as I heard that IE was having that problem, I ran as fast as I can to my computer and switched to Firefox. I'm now a Firefox user. smile.gif
