I was using gimp and i followed this guide, then i got pissed that i can't find this soft light thing. So it just went la-de-la from there on

I used brushes from deviant art. and eh.

Is the graphics forum too cool for you?

Hang around the graphics world and listen to what other people say in their replies about a piece. Try to catch on to some of the basic terms first. Pay attention. You cant just open a program and know what the hell to do, which is what you just attempted.

Well, the text sticks out way too much, and the render doesn't work well with the background.

Not bad at all for a firstish... the CD4 in the background makes the render stick out too much though. You might trying making the CD4 a layer above the render then blend it and erase around the render. Also the text doesn't flow with the rest of the sig color and size wise but other than that keep up the good work.

A good start.

You need to find certain ways to make the whole thing blend together and flow whilst still keeping the render and text visible.

If you do some tutorials on the internet, you pick up skills and tricks. You can find tutorials on DeviantArt or by just googling.

As for "Soft Light" - it is a blending mode for layers. To do this, right click on your layer (must be a layer, not a background layer) and click "Soft Light." Changing a layer's blending mode to soft light will basically blend it together/make it a bit lighter/lower the transparency (I can't exactly place what it does) that makes that layer have a soft 'impression' on the layers below it, hence its name.

The c4d doesnt work at all. He needs to get down making them first without worrying how to use a c4d yet. Its far too advanced of a style to do compared to what he knows now (which is not much). You best steer clear of using c4d's for awhile.

Tutorials are NOT hard to get ahold of. Google and deviantArt search them, its not rocket sceince (But being able to correctly giev advice on gfx here seems to be lately).

Heres what I used to start with. Practice the techniques, we dont care what you make it is just imparitive that you learn [u]how to use photoshop[u] right now. Not to make the next sig of the year.



If you dont understand many of the things being used in that turotial there, I have other types of signature tutorials to try. Dont be afraid to ask, it will be worth it if you're having trouble.

well its ok for a first sig. i dont know much about gimp but i recomend using photoshop cs3 extended, and usings tuts for your next sig. great things will come to you. i see what you tried to ddo with it but you didnt accomplish much. it looks like you didnt even attemp to blend the c4d into your sig or anything. the render quality is bad so ill give you that one. and the text is just blah. but ill give it 5 out of 10
