Anybody else use it? I started using Ubuntu which is a version of Linux that can run inside of Windows with minimal requirements. It takes some toying around and not all drivers are compatible obviously but I actually like it. I just downloaded an application called Wine so I can run Windows programs in it and they seem to run better. One thing is for sure Linux is much better for browsing the web!

I've used that version of linux before. My dad has it on all his computers. It's a bit confusing when getting used to, but it's alot like windows I think.

yea it is a lot like windows. the only downside is not all games and drivers work.
WAts da facken point.
unless you want to get into coding hardcore - stick with windows/mac

because a game I play runs better on linux and I doknow how to code so that will be convenient if I do need to code. even with ubuntu I can still boot windows at startup if I need to anyways.

I used it for about a month, but then we got a new comp. My cousin runs Windows XP and Ubuntu and I'm pretty sure he also runs either Vista or OS X too.

Most games run well under Wine. Linux in it self is no operating system for someone who is in the lrn2computer group.

Lol yea newbie computer users shouldn't use Linux.
I've tried Linux a few times, mainly Redhat. I've always seemed to come back to Windows. I guess it's because Windows is all that's ever used in my places of business, seems a little silly to switch b/w OS b/w home and work. I never minded it, but again Windows is magnetic.
I've been tempted to buy a 13'' laptop, and it seems that Linux is the only OS that runs on them. So I might be going back soon.. unless I can talk myself out of wasting $400.

heh I just recently talked myself out of $1700 that would have been used for building a new gaming PC. Some aspects I prefer Linux over Windows because it runs faster but I miss all of the programs that I can only run on Windows. Ultimately I might have to go back to Windows.

Fixed.
Linux is far more secure then Windows in all aspects seeing as you can tell linux what a user can and can not do where as Windows gives a user full access to everything to do even the simplest tasks.

I don't know about you but I set/modded windows to stop my mum being able to muck things up.
The only reason Linux is really more secure than Windows is for the same reason macs are more secure. No-one gives enough of a shit about them to write viruses or exploits for the systems.
Well, provided you're not a halfwit anyway. I'd like to see any operating system deal with someone giving the motherboard a soapy spongebath because they were told to keep their computer's internals clean.

This is true but that little bit of security for now is nice.
