Sooo, I made a website because I'm an idiot and I thought it might make me a penny or two.

Anywho, its a tool that lets you look up a song, and it'll tell you what movies it's been in. I'm looking for criticism in all areas, including the general design, the logo, the functionality... whatever. Here's the site:

ScreenTunes.com

Also, I'm looking for a spot where I could put some ads in without them cluttering up the site. I'll probably end up putting in banners somewhere, but if any of you know of good text-based ad services, please let me know!

Also wondering if I should add any other features. I think I'll add a "reversed" search where you enter the movie name and it gives you the songs from that movie, but that is offered by quite a few sites already so I started with this.

Edit: Added the movie search - you have you enter a movie name, it'll spit back a list of movies/tv shows with names similar to what you entered. Select the one you want, and see the soundtrack for that movie/show smile.gif

Oh I like the concept and the fact that you have tried this.

I think it's pretty damn good; I just typed in "Valkryies" thinking it would not be able to process such a vague term, but it came up with a whole list of movies which have "Ride of the Valkyries" in it.

Well done!

Two things I found on the search page itself.
1) When you click the text, it doesn't all get deleted so it has to be done manually
2) Pressing enter doesn't start the search so the search button has to be clicked.

Good points.
1) I love your logo and the colour scheme
2) Extremely simple to use
3) The domain name itself is easy to remember

A very well done site to be honest. GJ Cecchi. About ads, I'm sure you can fit them to the left and right of the results page and below the search bar on the search page.

Thanks Row smile.gif

And bling, those are two good ideas. I added the input-clearing functionality, and I'll work on the "Enter" bit now.

Edit: Enter key can now be used to start the search.

Happens when you search for lyrics.

Well, something you should add is the artist of the song. I searched for "Helicopter", and it came with loads of results, but it didn't show me the artist so I had no clue if it was the right song at all.

Oh and dnno if it's hard to do, but maybe when I see this for example:
"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (Season 2, Ep. 8) (2000)

Have it add a link to the IMDB page automatically, if possible at all.

If you put in a song (I just put in "angel"), the bottom text of the website gets covered up with song names, since there are more movies than can fit on the screen (but a scroll bar comes up).

Also, when you put in a movie and the scroll bar comes down, the pages loads but the scroll bar doesn't automatically go away. I know it seems obvious to just x out, but some people are just that computer illiterate.

Shouldn't happen anymore... that was me testing some stuff.

I can try to add the artist later, but won't be possible until I redo the way the search works.. which I have to do anyways at some point.

I can add a link to IMDB for sure.

The bottom text just moves down, its still there. Perhaps I should "lock" it onto the bottom of the window though so its easier to find without scrolling all the way down.

Not sure what you mean in your second paragraph though... you want the modal window (the popup thing with the list) to disappear after you select a movie?
Maarten
By the way, you do know it does games as well, right? Got Guitar Hero and some others a few times I think.

Er.. yeah... of course! I meant for it to do that! whistle.gif

Also changed the footer links for ya IAMAOM.

Layout is sexy. You should add different color themes.
h3n7y
Looks really nice, the functionality and general layout are very good. Only criticism I can give is about the logo...Only have the grey gradient on the text, atm it dulls out the whole block, which would look way better without being dulled out imo!
Cmafai
What do you mean Henry? Not sure what gradient you are talking about...

And Kreo - I'm not so sure about themes, do you think they'd look out of place on a site like this? It doesn't have a login system or anything, so it would forget peoples preferences if they left the site (I could use cookies, but those are only semi-reliable). I'm on the fence for this issue right now.
h3n7y
Just zoomed in, and yeah its my eyes deceiving me. It looked like the grey tone in the text covered the whole bottom area and still does, but actually it doesnt...:|
I am me and only me
Do you have a meta-tag (or whatever you use nowdays) for search engines? In google I put in "screen tunes" and get a bunch of sites that aren't yours.
Maarten
Where's the link to Runecrypt? No advertising without linking back!@
kreotis
Add links at the bottom of the page(Or wherever thy would fit well) with the names of the said color themes. You dont have to get all extravagant in changing everything around. Im just saying you need a little variety. Not everyone likes having light ass sky blue pages while lurking at 2am in a dark room.
Cmafai
Amen, good point Kreo.

IAMAOM - It'll take some time for me to get a good ranking on search engines, so now other massive sites that have links/reviews of ScreenTunes are showing up first.

Maarten - Grr.
