So, in general, I'm anti-anything made by Apple. I laughed when all the spoilt kids in my school payed hundreds of dollars for mp3 players just to toy around with tiny movies and listen to music for all of that 2 hour battery life.
Eventually, these things gradually got better in terms of storage space (160GB ffs, who could possibly use that), battery life, quality of screen, extra features etc. etc.
So, I'm in the US for a while now and before I went I realized that there's no way I'm going to spend 19hrs of flying (and 12hrs in an airport dry.gif ) reading books. I bit the bullet and got myself an iPod Touch pretty much because it looks awesome and I've never actually heard a bad review on it.
One of the best choices I've ever made in terms of buying technology even though I hate to admit it. The thing can get 24hrs literally of battery life if you just listen to music, the screen quality is bloody amazing, storage space is more than I'll ever really need - 8GB - (it's called deleting movies as you watch them!) and as for the music, well it plays it, great. In addition, you get apps including VoIP meaning you can pretty much call anyone in the US when you have wifi and all sorts of bells and whistles.

I really hate the fact that Apple pretty much has a monopoly on the mp3 market and will not in the forseeable future have to lower their prices. For example, shuffles have been around the $60~ mark for as long as I can remember.

I feel like a huge sell out to the anti-apple movement. So, what are your opinions on iPods, do you use them, want them or distinctly hate them?
Smoby
No. I don't really listen to music and I don't really like movies. So it woud be rather pointless for me to buy an iPod biggrin.gif.

I don't really like movies.

My stereo system consists of an Onkyo receiver connected up to 2 large speaker boxes that each contain a 12" woofer, a 5" mid-range and a 3" tweeter. Once you go real equipment you never go back.

tl;dr I dont use ipods
Too Insan3
I have one, but my brother gave it too me
i think he found it.

I don't really mind what thing i have mp3 or ipod
but i just use whatever, as long as its good and it has abit of space.
i only need like 2 gig.
RSK
i have an 8gb ipod nano, i bought a phone for £80 that can do everything the nano can and more.
Maarten
I have a 2GB Nano, 2nd generation, really old now I guess tongue.gif
I don't use it much anymore, but I really think it's awesome. I couldn't use any other MP3 player anymore to be honest, because ipod's are just too awesome.
Tao
120gb iPod classics are beast, and I got a discount of $190.

The only thing about it is that I only carry about 2gb of music and 10gb of movies H.gif
Bloodthir
My Mp3 player is right in front of me. It's a m240 Sansa, cost me about $30, runs on a single AAA battery, dosen't have shuffle or playlists, holds 1 gb and is notorious for bricking.

Mine has worked really well so far. I wuvves it. Might get a better Sansa later, but honestly i've had no objection to it thus far.

i have been using this one for 4,5 years, and listening like avg 4 houers a day, and its still working good.

*still happy i bought it, not so happy with the colour but it was the last one sad.gif*
Maarten
Wow that colour is awesome to be honest, I really like that tone of orange H.gif

I tend to dislike ipod shuffle's, there's no screen so the whole ipod functinality is gone. Might as well buy a cheapass MP3 player then.

You laugh at those who buy the Apple, yet you go out and get the most expensive one?
Hey, I have 160GB, and it rocks.
Yeah, 24hrs. Suck on it.
Apple does not have a monopoly. There are other brands. Apple is just better. Also, I bought my old Shuffle for $100. So comparatively, $60 is nice for more storage space.

Now to go download Watchmen off of Torrentz.

I have a touch and I really like it. Next time I fly to Europe i'll put a couple of movies on there so that if the inflight intertainment sucks, i'll have backup wink.gif

Yea, I have an iPod Nano. I basically use it for long car trips, during school if allowed, vacations, etc.

That's a problem you see. you can't write off anything apple makes just because some of it's products are overpriced and aimed at a non-practical audience. Bottom line, since Apple got into MP3 players from the very beginning and they were the first to implement flash on a decent price and large scale, they had a huge lead over the rest of the competitors in the field. Apple used all their knowledge to control the MP3 market by making utility aimed players in all the right fields and priced the correctly.
With all the experience they have, they ended up with the best players in the market, with the best hardware support and cheapest price.

I'm no apple fanboy believe me. I'm just practical. I had a Zen Micro from Creative - it had tons of problems, it was physically large for its capacity and the support was awful. About a year an a half ago i checked the market for best capacity/price and support. I found that the IPod classic fits the bill and it has been my loyal MP3 Player since then. It hardly ever goes wrong and it works like a charm with my PC.

Everyone in my house has a different iPod.

Myself - 16 Gig iPod Touch 2nd gen
Father - 4gb iPod nano 3rd gen
Mother - 4gb iPod nano 2nd gen I believe.

I use my iPod daily. I hook it up to my computer speakers via auxilary cord and listen when I'm on the computer. I like to listen and play with apps on long car rides, like pin ball and ping pong. It was well worth the money. It's really funny when I see surveys that ask 'iPod or Mp3 player' because iPods are so huge these days.
Drerven
I have a 16GB Ipod Touch and it really kills time with all of the applications I can get for it. Being able to listen to my music and play games while I'm at work is awesome!
The only problem though is it's still an Apple product. The Headphone jack is coming lose so it only plays in the left ear. Plus the screen doesn't always work the way it's supposed too even when I adjust the sensitivity.

Nano, use it for long trips or at times when there is absolutely nothing else to do.

Besides that I never use it, I still think they are brilliant though.

If I forget to feed my iTunes, it gets angry and deletes all my apps

I thought I was the only person not to feed my iTunes.

I don't have an ipod or mp3 player. What the Phoronida happened to meeting people on planes, or talking on long trips?

Itunes works for me. I just don't update it.

When I was on a plane for myself for the first time comming here, I was first sitting next to a buisnessman reading the newspaper (Who totaly spilled his soda, luls), and a Vietnamieseish looking person who I thought was sleeping but I couldn't tell because he was wearing sunglasses.

Then, I only had an indian woman who looked like she was a buisnessperson who had a book about buying her first home.

On the long ride to Korea, I was next to this Korean female teen who slept most of the time and a CHinese businessman looking person who I talked to a bit and who gave me his roll.

Finaly, on the way to China, I had a nosebleed from eating some ramen earlier lulululululululululul.

But yeah, an Mp3 player helps. And I only had like, 30 minutes of music. That and a book and the crappy movie (The Tale of Desperaux, which freaking sucked) and an okay movie (Yes Man, I found it pretty good) is more than enough to entertain me for 12 hours.

I hated iPods simply because they were made by Apple, and they were popular. Once I got one though, I loved it. There definitely are downsides, but they pretty much never arise and I can't even remember what they were - not including pricing.

I wantz an iTouch! But by the time I've rounded up enough money for it, a new and better one will be out. wink.gif

One is a hold switch, the other is for shuffle/non-shuffle.

Already thought about those aspects and decided no. The Phoronidaing charmander in your sig pretty much denounces that you are young. And if you deny you are young then you are inevitably old which needless to say is kindaaa weird YO. And what would make it even more weird is the fact that you see something wrong with allowing us to know how old you are... which insinuates even more dastardly things. In fact the further I go on the more dark and twisted things get. I'll stop here thought. Coz you're young.
I am me and only me
After using the crap that is iTunes, I don't think I'll ever spend $100+ on an apple product. Can you use other programs to upload music onto an iPod?
Benjy
Yes FileAid.
The single best program ever made for an iPod. In conjunction with DiskAid the app, it turns your iPod touch into a USB stick H.gif

The biggest problem with my itouch is I have to spend a lot of time changing the file format on my Porifera videos so they can play on my ipod because the website only plays a file type that doesn't work with my itouch.

I have 750gb(around) of music on my external HD, and a 120gb ipod. Use it on most journeys, whether that be to anf from school / outings etc. I use mediamonkey rather than itunes, much easier to use and has far more features.

Why the hell did apple raise their prices? They're already making hundreds of thousands of dollars a day D:

Rob
Or maybe actually Oshi-.

I don't have an Ipod. It's not because the technology for the original Ipod was plagiarised (Patented 6 months after Creative patented their uppy-downy select system) nor that they're overpriced. It was simply that when I was buying an mp3 player there was no support for Xvid movies on any apple music player. Rather unlike the Xen Vision:M which was also cheaper for a 30gig harddrive. Having had a brief glance, the Ipod touch still doesn't. Personally I don't see the logic in not supporting one of the best quality to file size formats which also has the added benefit of being totally open source and free -oh. Wait. This is apple.

So yeah, I've had my xen vision:m for 3 years, I've dropped it more times than I can count and all it's done is chipped the ceramic paint on the back. If it ever does pack in I'll just find another player which supports Xvid and go for that.

I have an iPod Nano(2G) 2nd gen, it works fine. I don't want a different iPod when mine works fine, also 2G is good enough for me as I only put favorite song/artists on my iPod.
Drerven
I spent hours converting about a quarter of my music to put it on to my itouch and it already took up 8gb.. that's half my my memory... itunes says it would take 3 days to listen too... I wish I had the money for a 32gb because the 16gb isn't going to cut it soon.
