Full Version: CPU Fan

My CPU fan has been making so much noise these past few days, its getting unbearable.
It sounds like someone has stuck a playing card in it, like you would a bike wheel spoke.
When we hit the top of the tower, it stops. This worked up until yesterday, when if you hit it, it would only stay quiet for an hour or so.
I opened my tower up, cleaned alot of dust out, but nothing is physically in the fan.
I emailed the guy who made our computer for us, but he hasn't responded yet.
The computer is only about 6 years old.

Could it be time for a new cpu fan?

Clean the dust out of it with a q-tip

1.

Clean the CPU fan.
2.

Clean the power supply fan.
3.

If the noise persists and can be narrowed down to the CPU fan, replace the CPU fan.
4.

If the noise persists and can be narrowed down to the fan inside of the power supply, replace the power supply.

Note: Due to safety concerns, it is never recommended to open the power supply and replace only the fan. I always recommend that the entire power supply be replaced instead.
5.

Many fans in perfect working order will simply get louder as the system gets hotter. In this case, it may be necessary to move your PC to a cooler area.
6.

If moving the PC is not an option, you may need to invest in more powerful fans or in a more advanced cooling system like liquid cooling.

Highly doubt you have to go with the liquid cooling that was just a part of the article.

Though if you have the money, liquid cooling is quite sexy.

It is sexy but pointless for most desktops. Pretty much only need them for overclocked rigs because hardware doesn't get that hot otherwise unless somebody really messed up their rig. And for an old as shi computer that would be stupid. tongue.gif
