Full Version: Favorite Genres?

Well, I was just curious to see what everyone's favorite genre of music is or at least what kind of genres do you like/listen to. You can post your genres and give examples like what bands you like from those certain genres and such.

Personally I have somewhat of a vast liking of genres. Here's my list of genres I like:

Some Classical, some Jazz, a little bit of Bluegrass, Big Band music from the Swing Era, some Orchestra music, Oldies from the Rat Pack through some of the 80's here in America, a little bit of Metal (not much though, sorry), Rock, Experimental, Alternative, some Ambient, Post-Hardcore, some Screamo (too much of it and it gets way annoying), Techno, House, Trance, all types of Christian music, and that's basically it from what I can think of.

Here's a few bands that I like from just a few of the genres:

60's music: Elvis, Beatles, Beach Boys, Bee Gees, Johnny Cash, and probably many more.

Alternative: Anberlin, Falling Up

Post-Hardcore: Emery (favorite Post-Hardcore band ever), Bullet For My Valentine (haven't listened to much of them, but the songs I have heard they sound great)

Screamo: Underoath (I suppose, lol)

House: Daft Punk

Trance: BassHunter

Anyways, post what genres you like and possibly bands you like from those certain genres if you want to. tongue.gif

Artists uhhh Basshunter, some Cascada (wierd right, but they got some crazy bass when they want it), Welcome to the Club by DJ Manian in particular, Paragonx9 from NewGrounds, whatever the hell Pandora gives me lol. I have some more but can't bother looking em up smile.gif

Well, I'm going to go out there and say I can't stand Heavy/Death Metal. Random screaming with repetitive movements just don't do it for me no matter how skilled the musicians may be.

I'm personally into Drum & Bass, Reggae, Generic Rock (yeah, yeah, I know) and what my iPod likes to call Alternative.

Yes, I like coldplay.

I cba to correct your genres lol.

Umm i like a lot of music..most variants of "extreme metal" i.e. black etc

Listen to quite a lot of Trance/EDM...like a lot of synth based atmospheric stuff, tbh i like something from most genres, yet still manage to not listen to the same music as most people I know irl.

Current most listened to band wold have to be Opeth or Ulver i guess

Rob
Um. Wow. Well. Er.

Classical (Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Dvorak, Bizet, Wagner, Vivaldi), Hip hop (J5, Nas, Wu Tang, RZA, Ghostface Killa, Christ Bearer, DMZ, Busta Rhymes, Sugarhill, Run DMC), Brit hop (The Streets, Beat Stevie), Classic Punk (Sex Pistols, Stranglers, The Clash, Buzzcocks, The Jam) Prog Rock (Genesis, Genesis, Genesis) Rock (Ohgod list) Garage (Mostly UK Garage) Grime (Roll Deep, Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, Tynchy Stryder, Bashy, Lethal Bizzle) Rap (the good kind, not half a dollar, Akala),House (Too many artists do good house, so I tend to just stick to mixes), Electro (DJ Acroama [/shameless plug]), Dance (As with house), Trance (As with house, altough Shameless plug, even if Dobson's a house DJ, Dubstep (Rusko, DJ Acroama, Skream, Benga), Drum N Bass (Andy C, Adam F, Roni Size, Pendulum, Goldie), Heavy Metal (Although not really any other types), Britpop (Blur, Oasis, Jarvis Cocker), Jungle (Dilinja, Adam F, DJ Fresh) , Jazz/Blues (Nina Simone), Ska (Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish), the more clubby-pop (Cascada etc.) and the old good vocalists from the middle of the last century, such as Frank & Nancy Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. etc..

Because Raggae isnt exactly what you described death or heavy metal as now is it. Dont make attepmts at insulting other people's genres. This isnt a debate about musical tastes because those just lead to Red vs Blue sides flames at eachother.

Thats about it although it is pretty broad.

Broad? You have five sub genres of metal there, and then techno.

Good lord, you metalheads keep wanting to have HUEG RANEG OF MUSAK, but you don't. Face it. You don't. But that's not a bad thing at all. You just like metal. Nothing wrong with that.

I listen to Indie and Classic Rock, and that's it. Some various other bands which are other genres, but that's it.
kreotis
I listen to what people my local radio station play when I'm out doing shit irl. If I'm choosing what I listen to or at my computer its either metal or electronic. Metalfags dont list everything that they can or do listen to on a regular basis, only the shit that they really like. Which ours happen to be spread across various sub genres of metal (makes sense that someone liking metal likes shit from other parts of metal now dont it?).

Also Trees, just wait until Alk come in here lol he can shit all over the typical metalhead/genre accusations. He is the definition of someone who listens to Phoronidaing everything. You all dont even know r[]fl.

Skindred live was one of the best things I've ever seen. They bust out pressure and I got lamped in the face about three times.

Yes.

It was to prove a point that "metalheads" don't just listen to metal, and can have very eclectic tastes.
Alk
Nobody ever restricted someones clique-classification to one genre/one specific type of music. Metalheads usually regard to, well, metal though

Not quite the same thing Henry.

Saying that someone doesn't have a broad taste in music isn't the same as saying they only listen to one specific genre. More ties in with liking a lot of the same sounds. Like how I love thumping basslines in as much as possible. I still listen to a lot of other stuff, but I always wonder how it would sound with moar bass.
Catchowmein
I'm failing to see any point in this argument.
Alk
What is this argument you are speaking of.
Damian
