"Alexander McQueen's crippling mega-clogs pose a style conundrum: If you can't wear it, is it still fashion?"

Article

I didn't even read the article, just the pic and subheading were enough for me. laugh.gif

Looks like an alien foot. Seriously, what the Phoronida.

Form is awesome. I tried to have awesome form with my math notes. however, I gave up on it because eventually the form defied the function. Such is the case with those shoes.
Drerven
those look Phoronidaing nuts... and if fashion repeats itself people would wear them because people have worn clothes that Phoronida up the body before.
Saebjorn
I know, those monstruous abonimations are horrific.
And they look like pincers.
I skimmed the article. Says they were trying to dress up semi-amphibian (they had coral pattern dresses, hair in horn shapes and crap) to show 'when' sea levels rise humans will 'return' to their 'original' semi-amphibian life.

WTF wacko.gif
I am me and only me
I've always hated high heels...

When sea levels rise, I will become a shark. Phoronida amphibians
Drerven
who ever said that is Phoronidaing retarded because evolution doesn't happen overnight.

you realise half this shit isn't supposed to be worn anywhere other than a catwalk...these shoes are just random showings of a designers creativity, theyre not meant to be practical, have you ever seen the sort of weird things that are displayed on a catwalk? You wouldn't wear half of it anywhere else.

stop being so naïve and thinking in such a linear fashion.

Which is exactly why the topic title asks the question 'If you can't wear it, is it still fashion?'
The entire point of this is to ask if the random junk, sorry, 'showings of designers creativity' should be considered fashion if it's totally impractical and downright weird.

The answer is clear and has already been mentioned in Henry's post. You fail to see it Benjy because you don't want to accept it as the answer. I'll justify that claim by the way you talk about the items shown on the runways and what not. You call them 'random junk' which is obviously uncovering a predisposition of yours that you don't acknowledge the time and effort put into designing and making fashion items.

It's fine for you to hold that opinion (if you want to look like an ignorant tool). I suggest doing some research and actually understanding the subject before making claims about it.

'Totally impractical and weird'

Firstly, the shoes aren't totally impractical - they have a use in the fashion world. Secondly, 'weird' is only your opinion (and such an opinion holds no sway in the fashion world). Furthermore, it would be a boring world if we all had to subscribe to what you thought was right, wrong, weird and cool, etc.

Thirdly, you're judging fashion items by their use! Are you kidding? Do you even understand fashion? I think not. Which leads me back to my aforementioned point - do some research before making silly claims or enjoy looking like an ass.

Lastly, the topic question has never been valid from the start. The examples used have all been fashion items that were being worn. How could that major factor be overlooked? Oh right. It's because you just wanted to disguise a rant on fashion within a 'debate' about fashion items. Ok, I see now, carry on gents.

Jolly good game of forums I say.

The shoes are totally impractical. Creating a shoe for a runway clearly makes it impractical in the real world. The fact that it has 'use' in the runway-world does not in any way define it as practical.

Yes, I do understand fashion, it's the concept that counts, that is why I posted my opinion on it. You can't blatantly make a statement that 'the world would be a boring place...' because I'm sure if the world was defined by you, it would be a stoned, drunken, deranged and rather trolly place.

Never do I judge fashion items by their use. Get it right. Do some research (or you could just read the post) before making silly claims or looking like an ass.

And yes, lastly, I know this thread has a huge bias and slight hypocrisy, which is why I didn't post into it until now. I didn't make the topic, go rant on to somebody who cares.
Row
Fashion is part of the real world. Creating a shoe for a runway does not clearly make it impractical - and you have the nerve to call me deranged?
The fact that the shoe is useful in the fashion industry does make it concerned with actual use or practice - once again do some research before you make ignorant claims.
If you didn't care you wouldn't have replied. You made yourself look like an ass by drawing ridiculous conclusions based on unfounded evidence. Then you attacked me on a personal level which I never did to you.

And lastly, thanks for the advice but your opinion holds no weight. I've been around here a lot longer, seen a lot more, been through a lot more to know that it's good to show people for the ignorant fools that they are once in a while. Obviously you can't handle the heat, that's fine. I'll just go away and you can pleasantly post around with the bots and the other tweens that grace this merry forum.
Rob
I don't know why any of us care. Everyone here is going to fail in life and will never have the money to attend fashion shows or buy such impractical shoes.

Depends on your definition of fail.

Hold up here, Row. I don't see how being useful in the fashion world makes something useful if it has no purpose anywhere else. Its clothing. If you want to make it look nice and make interesting designs, etc - fine. If you create something that can't even be worn except on the catwalk, then what the hell is the point in creating it in the first place - so some randoms at a fashion show can for less than a minute watch a model walk along in absurd shoes nobody is ever going to wear? What's the point in that? Spending your life developing better methods of creating paper planes would be more productive, if only you got paid the same for it!

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't realise how much things had changed around here. I have to succumb to your opinions because you don't understand my logical justifications? That makes a lot of sense.

Really it does.

Also it's a shame that you don't understand the conditional tense.
This is the end of this discussion on my part. I make it a point to not engage in mindless and mundane banter and so I'm going to swallow my pride and let you have the last remark. You can reply to my post and claim that you don't understand or simply make up some other bullshit. I'm trying not to care, but I think I'm failing.
Rob
I don't know if anyone here knows what goes on at fashion shows, but what's put on catwalks showcases the next season of clothes. Ergo it may not be exactly what's later sold, but it's at least an adaptation of what is. Although some of the original pieces displayed at shows are auctioned anyway as one of a kind pieces.
h3n7y
Rob, there are fashion shows that are for seasonal releases, i.e. fashion shows where people have feather wings and shit
