Okay. My dad's wickedawesome tv broke, and by the time it was fixed he no longer had the place to put it. I took a look at it and noticed a desktop-monitor connection slot. O RLY? So I had an idea. I could mount it on my bedroom wall with no connection, and get a spare monitor cord and soak in the win, BUT I dont want to fry the computer/tv, so I'm a little skeptical.

Any suggestions?
Rob
If it has a standard VGA or DVI port then you won't be frying anything. Even if it runs through HDMI and your graphics card supports HD connectivity, you won't be frying anything.

However, speaking as someone who has a TV/computer/Console screen about 6ft from my bed it is amazingly awesome. However. If you do things like IRC or playing RS or whatever, you're likely to have an absolute nightmare trying to read small font. It's fine on anything you can ctrl+scroll to zoom in on but irritating as hell on things you can't. Overall, I love it though.

Awesome! Would an HDMI cable be better quality than just a normal old monitor cord, and if so how much would they cost/where would I get one?

Get a laptop.

I have a laptop.

HDMI is beautiful. Just beautiful. They do need graphics cards with High Def output though. The cables cost anywhere between $10-$100 and there's really no difference between them.

I run a laptop through a monitor downstairs since I can dual-wield monitors.

I wasn't able to get an HDMI cable yet, but I hooked it up to the TV. Pretty cool, the only problem is that the TV isn't mounted yet, and just kind of wobbles of the floor; other than that it's sweet. I'll see if I can get an HDMI cable soon.

more like 6 dollars.

and lol about the frying things, hdmi lololol

Sometimes I hate your country. The cheapest HDMI cable I've gotten was second hand and cost me a fiver. Which at the time was $10.

Lulz, I just bought 2 cables on the web earlier, off ibood. Awesome website tbh, that's the UK version. Dutch one has different offers. I got 2 cables, 1,5m and 3m for about 12 euros. So that's 10 pounds...
