Hokai, so. I was having a conversation the other day with a friend of mine about superpowers. We then came to the question: If you could have any two superpowers, what would they be? We got some ideas but then realized some flaws in some powers that could substitute for multiple. We wrote down a couple of things and here it is:

Energy sourcing (ability to draw and concentrate electricity from electronic items)

Super reflexes (be able to react far quicker than any normal human, not like Matrix quick though)

Vision (Zoom up to 300x)

Crawling (ability to scale vertical surfaces)

Language (ability to instantly understand any language)

Mind reading


Not Allowed

Super strength

Teleportation

Time travel

Mind control

Mind-object manipulation (the force)

Gravity manipulation

Invincibility/Immortality

Now what would you guys choose and why?

Well, to start with I'm going to throw it out there than your super speed sucks. Everyone knows that the only real speedsters are the Flash family and when the speed force isn't mucking around as it's so prone to doing, the Flash can run faster than light (Assumed from Flash having several times run across the universe in seconds and having the ability to travel through time albeit with the aid of the Cosmic treadmill). Plus anyone who can tap into the speed force can vibrate their molecules fast enough for them to not be solid. The flash can literally shake his hand so fast that he could put his hand inside your head and make it explode, but before it exploded he could run through a solid brick wall to avoid getting any brain matter on his costume.

But yeah.

I would choose the obvious flight/super speed combo. It may not have that many obvious practical uses but all the best heroes can fly and Barry Allen is right up there with Hal Jordan in my favourite ever comic book heroes.

Because if you get running fast enough you can fly. Plus being invisible is just badass.

Well if you can run fast enough you would eventually reach either the orbital or escape velocity for earth, which could be considered flying. For reference, the escape velocity is around 11.2 km/s. Keep in mind that if you're running at the equator that you already have a speed bonus because of the rotation of the earth.

But if you ran opposite to it wouldn't it make time go backwards?

If you mean by time zones then I suppose, in a way. As far as actual time travel, I don't even think that it's theoretically possible to travel back in time. It is, however, theoretically possible to "travel" to the future by traveling close to the speed of light (special relativity). Of course this would require an immense amount of energy, hence the theoretical part.

Anyway, I really can't decide when it comes to these things, but I'm picking Invisibility and Energy Sourcing. They are both useful, especially if you are stranded or in the middle of a war. Imagine being able to disable all the enemy's vehicles, planes and ships and using the power to blow up their capital or the like? Or on a happier note, your iPod/phone etc would never need recharging. Invisibility is too versatile to even start to describe its awesomeness.

That would (at least theoretically) make him move forwards in time, because the faster an object moves (sizable percentage of the speed of light for any real effect), the slower time moves for that object's frame of reference relative to a frame of reference that is at rest with respect to the object. Not that I'm an expert on relativity, I've just read a bit on time dilation, etc. with special relativity.
