Holiday events are always fun, they're also a great way to procrastinate from the daily grind of runescape.
The thing is, I personally feel like the events are declining in their creativity and the rewards are getting repetitive.
My favorite event was the 2006 easter, the event was fun, the reward (easter ring) was unique, and it didn't feel like a repeat of a previous event with an easter theme.
Since then, the events have been more repetitive, the rewards have almost always been clothing, and the events start to feel like a chore to do.
What is your opinion on Holiday events, and do you think they're worth completing anymore?

They are a chore.
A chore you don't get paid to do anymore.

Admittedly, holiday events have never been too swell, but really that's the point and nature of them. It's more like, "Give F2p players kinda cool looking but ultimately useless and more fad-like type clothing so they feel included." Whatever.

I completley agree.

For gods sake. Some stupid web cape that I'm never going to wear? A spider that is a waste of time and space?
There are cooler things out there. Even for F2P.

When they stopped being, 'Hey lets have some fun with people' and became, 'Ok, lets be careful to make these things balanced so people without them won't cry in 20 separate e-mails,' they got boring. It'd be nice to have something useful, but really, they've lost their charm for me :\
Even something random, like, a ring that will teleport you to one of 6 random and ridiculously remote location would be a giggle or two. Something more than a cape. Anything but a cape...

TBH I agree with you, I always enjoyed the holiday events to start with, now they are alot more tedious (Putting webs in a house...) and you don't even get much of a reward from them.

64 webs....
Who at Jagex thought that'd be fun to do?

I liked the yo-yo. All you did was talk to Santa and you'd get it. All this new age "you have to spend half an hour to get a shitty reward" is a waste of time that could be better spent doing....anything.
If it weren't for the fact that I don't want to miss out on emotes I wouldn't bother with any holiday events. The only one I've ever missed and also regretted missing was the silly Easter Egg Ring when I was on Entrana for two months back in '06.

Well I've noticed that not as many people are there as there used to be as I did the halloween event on the second day and outside the portal and inside the house were both completly barren. Usually there were people that would lurk around the area either helping people out or showing off that they already did the event or people lurk around dressed in their (whatever the day is) best to show off their riches but that's not the case anymore. Personally I did enjoy the halloween event and I did like the reward but it seems that most people either didn't enjoy it or didn't care too much about it.
Personally I don't think it's the events that lost their spark because i enjoyed the recent ones as much as the older ones I find it's the players that lost interest in them.

I'm the only one that liked the Halloween event (besides shin)?
I felt it was a good challenge for me. The reward was alright (the cape I barely care about, but omg I <3 Eek). Overall I liked it.

Have to admit, I liked getting the spider, that was a nice little change from the usual "Nothing but more useless clothing" rewards we've been seeing these past few years (although now that i think about it, not much different than the zombie head a few years back)
All together I think I would have to say, yes they are probably running out of ideas and reuseable ideas at Jagex but who knows, maybe this is just whats needed to make them realize its time for a change...

Shall we brainstorm some real ideas? We're officialy recognised by Jagex, right...?

To me the holiday events lost a lot of the fun when the rewards started to turn more towards clothing rather than items. The old events that I was around for, rubber chicken, marionette doll, easter ring, were somewhat entertaining and the items were interesting enough, but rewards like the skeleton costume, capes, and etc are just lame, especially when A:They aren't at all usefull B:They look idiotic and C:Everyone has the exact same thing.

Actually, surprising enough, it only lasts two weeks max and then everybody stops wearing it. Barely a fortnight after one easter someone asked where I got my cool boots. The chicken ones. >.<
Sometimes they're good. For example, the warlock cloak is my favourite cloak and I use it because A)It looks cewl/magicy in my opinion, B)It looks adventure-worn C)I get unlimited free replacements. I also wear the ice amulet I used to summon those imps last Xmas because it looks good on rune.
But other than that...has anyone ever worn the pumpkin mask after that halloween?

I'm glad that they still attempt to do several events each year. Coming up with new ideas must be hard seeing as you can get repetitive for 8 years years. But lately their ideas haven't been as good as they were in the past. It does seem like a chore to do them nowadays and the rewards aren't always as exciting as they used to be.

After a while can you really expect them to come up with something new every year to wow us? They've run out of ideas at this point.
Spiders have really nothing to do with Halloween. I'm sure we'll have to Phoronida with snowmen or some crazy shit for this Christmas.
