1.
Introduction Hello, welcome to my combat training guide. After seeing so many different
threads asking the same questions about combat training I decided to make one
big guide about combat training, for the purposes of cleaning up the forums and
most importantly to help fellow Runescapers reach their goals. This thread will
help you master the art of combat. Enjoy.
*Please note, many of the training area's I talk about after you have reached
level 60 will require no food. I do not know of many good training areas which
require food, but if you do, please post them. I will add the information to the
guide and you name to the "contributors" list. Thankyou.*
**Please note the levels I am referring to in the Melee guide are your attack,
strength and defense levels. Not your combat level.**
1.1Key
-None
1.2 Search Function
Because this guide is quite large you can use the Control-f search function. To
access this press down the control key (appears as "ctrl" in your
keyboard then press the letter "f" key. This will bring up a small
dialog box. Type in any of the numbers in the index to make better use of this
guide.
Melee is great, it is extremely important; it defines how you will play the
game. It is almost cost free and now you have access to this guide, it is easy
to train. Training your melee skills gives you access to more areas, more
weapons, more armour, more quests and most importantly more fun!
2.1 Level 1-20. It may be tough to find a spare training spot on
the free to play worlds (if free to play people are reading) but on members you
should be able to find a nice spot to train. I recommend training at the cows
and goblins East of Lumbridge. But there are several other spots:
-The cows:
Other training spots:
- The chicken farms, there are two of them on either side of the river.
#1.
#2.
- The Goblins in Draynor forest, which is West of Lumbridge.
There may be many more spots in the members world but I will not cover them
because a low level such as this should not be wandering the Earth looking for
training spots when perfect spots are close to home.
2.2 Level 20-30. Training gets a bit more fun. You have access to
better weapons and armour at level 20 and you can experiment with these. I
personally recommend still training at the cows because they are very easy to
kill and drop hides, which are extremely useful for levelling Crafting later on
or you can sell them for a nice profit. But there are some other spots:
Other training spots:
- The dark wizards which are just outside the southern entrance to Varrock, hard
to miss because they sit there enchanting all day until somebody comes and
slaughters them. These are good for hoarding runes, they drop a nice bunch every
now and again.
- The skeletons down in the Varrock sewers are good to train on. There are tons
of them down there. The entrance is just south-east of the Varrock Castle.
2.3 Level 30-40. This is where training gets tough. The wonderful
runite is just out of reach. Lucky for you I have some great places to train for
you. My personal favourite is the Phoenix Gang Head Quarters. But you must be a
Phoenix Gang member, which may or may not appeal to you. (Phoenix ftw). But yes
training down in the Phoenix Gang H.Q is great because there are a lot of
thieves down there not surprisingly, and it is close to the bank. To get down
there I believe you have to have started and almost completed the "Shield
of Arrav quest" which is not hard at all.
Other training spots:
- The guards of Varrock are great training, though they don’t like to admit
this themselves.
2.4 Level 40-60. Training shouldn’t be as taxing now because you
are able to wield and wear your lovely Runite armour. You should be quite happy
to because this is where members really pays off. Do the quests "Priest in
Peril" and "Creature of Fenkenstrain" to gain access to one of
the greatest training spots in the world of Runescape. The experiment lair,
training here is great, the experiments are level 25 with 100hp, they giving you
400xp each kill. Beautiful…Train here lots and you will fly up the levels.
*Please note, even though the requirement for Pest Control is 40 combat, it
would be better for everybody if people with melee levels under 60 didn't train
there because many of these people are too weak and they cannot kill the beasts
or portals fast enough.*
There are still some other places to train which are alright, such as the Guards
of Varrock. Because they are near the bank you may be able to find a good deal
on that piece of weaponry you had been training for, you get the idea. To me
there really is no other good training spot other than the Experiment lair, if
you think other wise I will happily add the training spot you think is good, if
you can prove it is a generally good spot to train.
Other training spots:
-Hill Giants near the Observatory, these are great experience and they drop
large bones which will help you tremendously when it comes to training your
prayer. You can use the bank at "Castle Wars" also.
If the experiment lair is full you could also train at the Elemental monsters
which reside in the basement of a smith house in Seer's Village. To get here you
must be able to do the "Elemental Workshop" quest, it is well worth it
because these Elemental monsters drop tons of runes which will help you with
your magic.
2.5Level 60-99. Okay by now you should know what to train
on and where, but I am nice so I won’t just leave you stranded if you do not
know what to train on. Experiments still are the best experience; they cost no
food, are close to a bank ( if you teleport with the ectophial) and are weak.
But if the experiments are full I have some other good training spots for you.
Most of them require quests to be started or done, but by this level you should
be able to do them, and the rewards are great. Also around this level it would
be alright if you went to train at Pest Control because you would be able to
kill most of the beasts.
Other training spots:
-A good place to train is Pest Control. You can get a decent amount of experience as well as money and points which you can trade them in for items. Just make sure the Void Knight doesn't get killed and you get 50 hits.
- There are level 80 giant skeletons which inhabit Damis’ pit. This requires
53 thieving,
and part of “Desert Treasure” quest (the shadow diamond part) to be half
completed. These skeletons auto-attack you and drop big bones, you will gain
many levels here in this hell hole.
-The gorillas which inhabit the island Ape Atoll in the "Monkey
Madness" quest are level 167 so I wouldn’t train here unless you had 70+
attack and strength. Defense you don’t need because there is an altar right
next to the gorillas which allows you to pray to your chosen god (Zamorak is
sooo much better *receives money from Zamorak Recruiting Officers who are
looking for young outgoing adventurers to join the "dark side"*) and
receive immunity to physical attacks. Although, there is a wee little spider
which I think must live inside the altar, this spider likes to come out and bite
people who pray on top of his house, so I would recommend bringing some
anti-poison potions with you to.
-The Gorillas:
-The Altar:
-The Wee lil Spider:
Guthan's armour set training spots:
- Level 57 Bandits in the desert (south of Al Kharid) will auto-attack you if
you wear something which represents your god, for if you wear a god cape
(requires 60 magic and the completion of the mini-game "Mage Arena"
they will automatically attack you.
*People who are lucky enough to have Guthan's armour set may train at different
spots, which normally may require food but due to the special effect of Guthan's
armour set you don’t need it. I do not have Guthan's armour set, if you have
Guthan's armour set and you know some good spots to train with it, please post
them here. Or if you would like to donate cash for me to buy Guthan’s armour
set I will find good spots to train with it. (lol)*
2.55 Slayer
I would recommend only training slayer after you melee skills are level 60+.
Slayer is a great skill to train because it fits in perfectly with training
combat. Slayer gives you the opportunity to train three skills at once,
hitpoints, slayer and your chosen melee skill. Not to mention many of the slayer
monsters have great drops, some of them also feature in this guide, like the
firegiants, which means they are already great training.
So that concludes my guide to training you Melee skills, obviously if you feel
more could be added please post it and I will add it appropriately adding your
name to the "contributors" list. Now we can’t stop there can we?
Feel unfulfilled? Feel half-baked? I have the answer…read on.
*Please note, don't train range at experiments. It is very annoying for warriors
who have to attack their opponents close range, rangers have a distinct
advantage over warriors when it comes to training without using up food, they
could train to 99 range without eating one bit of food. So please do not train
range at experiments.*
Range is a challenging, but potentially deadly skill. It is slower to level up
then melee or mage, but it very useful when it comes to pking (people killing)
and fighting monsters. I would not try to train range until I had high levelled
melee skills. Unless offcourse I was an experienced player already, for example
if I was a player who had a main character, but decided to make a “pure”
character, I would already know lots about the game and how to make money so I
would be able to train my range.
3.1 Level 1-40. This should be easy; I went from lvl 11 to lvl 40
in half a day of training at the cows next to Al Kharid. Needless to say that
helped my crafting a lot, but it also cost me a lot of cash because I had to buy
thousands of arrows for my training. Not to mention bows, armour and other gear.
Like I said training your range costs you money, but it has the potential to pay
off in the long run. Really, the best spot to train range from 1-40 is the cows,
but I am sure people will have other ideas about this, if you are one of these
people feel free to post where you would train.
3.2 Level 40-60. A good place to train which is unpopulated is the
dark wizard tower, south west of Falador. It is fast training and the wizards
drop lots of runes which build up quite fast. There are some other good spots
to:
-The Wizard Tower:
- There are some Moss Giants North of Ardougne which are great training for
range. There are rocks there so you can trap the Giant behind the rock while you
range it, the only negative about this spot is it can be crowded sometimes, but
you can either change to a quieter world or go to a different spot.
- Some people also like to train their range at rock crabs, but I don't
recommend this because it is almost always full.
3.3 Level 60-99. After getting to level 60 there are only two good
places to train. The fire giants in their cavern, to get to the cavern you must
do the "Waterfall Quest", it is worth it, believe me you will level up
here tremendously fast, and hopefully you will also
get a rare dragon drop to!
-Fire giant's cavern:
Other training spots:
The other monsters to train on are the Blue dragons, which are alright training
if you want to make more money out of ranging. Every kill gives you about 4k
because Blue dragon hide sells for 2k a piece and so do the bones. But training
here takes longer because you will have to bank every ten dragons. It is up to
you to decide. There may be more places to train, if there are feel free to post
them
-A good place to train is Pest Control. You can get a decent amount of experience as well as money and points which you can trade them in for items. Just make sure the Void Knight doesn't get killed and you get 50 hits.
Well that concludes my guide to training range, as always if there are mistakes,
or you feel the guide is lacking please post more information about it and I
will add it appropriately adding your name to the “contributors” list. Now
lets continue… Are you sick of walking everywhere? Or you just wanna learn how
to make some cool fireworks. Well you have come to the right place.
Magic is a great skill, extremely useful and powerful. But it can cost a lot;
training magic could make a dent in your bank account. Don’t worry though I
will show you how to train your mage quite cheaply.
4.1Level 1-45. You can cast air strike on cows till 17,
then wind bolt till 37, and then Falador teleport till 45. To find out how to
get laws cheaply please see part 4.2
4.15Level 39 to 55. Once you reach level 39 magic, you can
cast the spell "Crumble Undead" this is a cheap and easy way to level
your magic to level 55. A great spot to train is down in the Varrock Sewers
again, you can fire your spells over a small river, thus protecting yourself
from the zombies. Note:The spell Crumble Undead cannot be auto-casted with a normal staff. It can only be auto-casted with a slayer staff. In order to use a slayer staff you need 55 slayer. You can buy a slayer staff at every slayer master for 21K GP.
4.2Level 45-55. Simply put, Camelot teleport. This is the
fastest and easiest way to level 55 magic, there are two ways to get the runes:
-#1. Buy the law runes. Remember how I said training magic could cost you a lot?
-#2. Run them in world 66. All you need is 27 essence, a few eager runecrafters
(there are plenty) and you have your magic training in the bag. It takes about 3
hours to make 1000 law runes for free. I find it much easier if you take breaks
every hour, or if you use glory amulets to teleport back to Draynor each time. I
believe it takes you about 5k laws to level 55 magic, but you must persevere
past this quite boring time of training because after this it gets much, much
easier to train. Good luck.
4.3. Level 55-99. Here it is, you have done it. High alching is
your best friend, it can only help you, whether is it training your magic to 99,
or getting those cool looking camouflage pants, alching is the way to go. You
can find a guide to High Alching here.
To sum this up, from level 55 onwards you can alch your way to 99 magic.
-High Alching:
If High Alching isn't purely the way you want to level, try Pest Control. You can get a decent amount of experience as well as money and points which you can trade them in for items. Just make sure the Void Knight doesn't get killed and you get 50 hits.
But wait! There is more…
4.35Level 55-80. So you are level 80 now are you? Is high
alching getting boring? Well I have an alternative. Stunning, yes this
alternative is stunning, not the adjective but the spell. At level 80 you learn
the spell "stun", it costs 12 Earth runes, 12 Water runes and 1 Soul
rune.
"How is that cheap?" I hear you say; well it isn't in the short term.
But in the long term it will save you lots of money. What you have to do is
purchase a Mud staff which is about 4m I think at the moment. Then all you have
to spend money on is soul runes which are about 300 each I believe (magic
guild), thus this is
a very cheap way to 99 magic. Good luck with it my friends.
You should wear
armour which will give you a negative magic bonus. This will allow you to keep
casting on the same monster because the spell wont actually work. You will still
get the experience for casting the spell though.
Well that concludes my guide to training mage, as always if there are mistakes,
or you feel the guide is lacking please post more information about it and I
will add it appropriately adding your name to the "contributors" list.
5. Extra
Tips Here is an extra tip
about merchanting:
O.K first rule about merchanting, things which are in demand sell for more. The
trick to merchanting well is finding these items when they are being sold
CHEAPLY, buy them, then sell them for more. If you do this well you will have a
nice profit in your bank in no time. To be a good merchanter you must have spare
time to hang around on the forums and world 2. Stick with it though and you will
be rich. Good luck with it!

7. Concluding Paragraph.
I would just like to restate the purpose of this guide, I made this guide for
the goal of cleaning up the forums and for the most part just to help fellow
Runescapers. It would be great if this guide could become a sticky, just so
people wouldn’t have to keep creating the same threads asking the same
questions. Thanks for reading.
